CONQUISTADORS IN THE FABLED LAND OF THE APALACHEE
A Special Day of Viva Florida 500 Historic Discovery
The 2012 Wild About Wakulla Week ends in St. Marks today with the celebration of Viva Florida 500, "Conquistadors in the Fabled Land of the Apalachee"
Begin your special day of historical discovery with a short talk at the DeSoto Winter Encampment Site, Tallahassee from 11:00 a.m. - Noon.
Followed by a self-guided driving tour for the easy 30-40 minute jaunt to Fort San Marcos de Apalache, in the historic coastal village of St. Marks.
Dine on local seafood of the freshest variety for lunch at one of our area restaurants - and experience our special sense of place!
Certified Green Guide boat captains will take you on a fun interpretive scenic tour along the olden coast on an afternoon cruise departing from the boat ramp next to the fort every hour beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Afterwards, discover Fort San Marcos on a guided walking tour of the fort and grounds followed by a lecture given by local historians in the Fort Museum.
